Bruno Mars - Just The Way You Are [Official Video]

I have chosen this music video because its similar to our song were the man sings about his girlfriend and how much he loves her. From this music video we will taking the idea that we don't need a narrative ut can just show the concept of love. We will also e taking the idea of using a cosy location like a home to show love and romance.

Jason Derulo - What If (OFFICIAL)

I chosen this music video because we did audience feedback and they said that they imagined our music video to be similar to this as in being a very cheesy video. We will be taking a few ideas from this music video.

Examples

These are a few of the music videos I have researched and found that are similar to the type of music video we will be making. Our song is a love song and we decided not to have any narative throughout because we looked at other videos from our genre and found that positive love songs have no narrative but just concentrates on the concept of love.

Target audience

Our new target audience for this genre would be teenagers and people under the age off 30.The genre can relate to this age because they may be in love nd around theses ages are the time for romance and love.

Claude Kelly Like an Iceberg

Change in genre and song

Due to our artist not replying back to us after we emailed her we decided to change our song and use our backup song we had planned. We now decided to go with the dominant genre and do a RnB/hiphop. We decided to do this because we thought it will be enjoyed by the masses an if it was to be a real music video it would make alot of money

A2 Music Video Pussycat Dolls- I Hate This Part

Further reasearch

I looked at other two other A2 music videoes. The first one I looked at was I hate this part by pussycat Dolls. I thought that it was a really good music video. It was narative but also a bit star constructed. I liked the bit where one of the girls were in a plain white background and she had a spotlight on her . It looks good but also was making the audience feel for the singer. I also liked the close up camera shots of the main character in the video. I think the narrative idea is really good all the way throughout the song . This has inspired me to include this in my video.

TAYLOR SWIFT - You Belong With Me (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO)

Andrew Goodwins Theory

Andrew Goodwin’s video theory
A music video that I decide to research from my genre is ‘You belong with me’ by Taylor Swift because it falls in the Pop genre. Andrew said that there were 6 aspects to music videos.
1. Genre characteristics- Dressed very modest but fashionable near the end wearing the pretty white dress innocent look.
2. Relationship between lyrics and visuals.- The stuff that she’s singing she does such as
3. Relationship between music and visuals-the cuts change to the beats of the music.
4. Demand to promote/sell artist- Have a lot of close-ups of Taylor swift
5. Frequency reference to notion of looking-The crowd staring at her when she enters into the school prom all dressed up.
6. Intertextual References-To Cinderella and the ugly duckling. First no-one realises her than she turns all pretty and liked.

Jennifer Lopez - I'm Glad

Flashdance ~ The last dance

Textual analysis of genre

I think that our Genre goes more with the Uses and gratification Theory because people tend to choose to listen to listen to this type of music as an activity or consume it out of choice. For example females may use it because there in love therefore us it as a form of escapism and consume it because they want to get away from real life.
Intextuality is used alt nowadays so that it makes the audience think about something that relate to them or something from the past. This is used in Jenifer Lopez’s video ’I’m glad’. She used intertextuality by copying the audition scene from Flashdance. As you can see from the videos the outfits and the audition room is exactly the same. Music artists do this to associate their music video with something original to make more money.

First Music Video on MTV- Video Killed the Radio Star

More History

The first music video on The MTV channel was ‘Music killed the radio star’. This is relevant because it talks about how music videos were taking over the radio because at that time people used to only listen to music through the radio but now it was available on TV with a video so that’s why radio became discarded. There has been a huge change in music due to new technology and the way we consume media. This has now resulted in new demand such as niche musical outlets. Now it is essential for recording artist to have a video with their music because otherwise they could lose their audience. Music videos caused controversy because institutions used the female sex appeal excessively and people said that it was just another way of making money.

Audience Theory and Research

After giving some surveys to different age groups, genders and ethnicities we found that our target audience were young children and females. They access these types of music videos through watching it on TV or going on to YouTube. We found that young girls use it as a form of escapism because it is really relaxing and calm. We found that young children listen to it because a lot of young stars fit in the Pop genre through the type of music they sing. For example Justin Beiber. Children listen to Pop music because they can understand it rather than something like Rap music were the lyrics are very fast.
Audience get a sense of their identity from music videos. For example they may see Cheryl Cole and think that they want to be strong willed and dress in that way for watching the music video ‘Fight for this love’. Also another example could be that now in a lot of music videos they glamorise the criminal lifestyle and as a result of this crime rates have gone up because the youth have been influenced through watching these types of music videos. But do we all react the same way when we watch a music video? This is a theory that Stuart Hall came up with ‘The reception Theory.’ This theory is that we all interpret a text and receive in different ways depending on age, gender class and ethnicity. Stuart Halls say that the text is encoded by the producer and decode by the reader. For example if a child watched Lady gaga music videos they would think ‘Why is this lady being so rude’ but if a teenage boy watched the same thing he might think ‘Wow she’s hot.’ So we all interpret music videos in different ways. But Stuart says how the producer can position the audience in way that there can be a certain amount of agreement in what the code means. Known as the ‘Preferred or more dominant reading’

CopyRight Free Music

To make sure that the music we chose was copyright free we when on a website called unsigned artists and checked out the music people put on there. We brainstormed some ideas by listening to a range of music from different genres .We wrote down the ones we were drawn towards then realised most were RnB music. So instead we decided we would do a Pop Song because all the other groups were doing the genre RnB. When we found a song we all liked then we emailed the singer to ask if we could use her song for our music video and we also asked her to outline any conditions that she had and we would oblige. CD Cover Analysis

The CD cover I looked at was a High School Musical CD.I could easily realise what type of audience the institution was aiming at before even opening the CD. The colours that were used were very bright primary which attract children. Also the actors and actresses were all smiling which was different from what you would see on the CD cover of A Rap star. They would have a more serious face. When I opened the CD case I found that there was a poster inside that the children could put on their walls. I also realised there was a paper with the lyrics so that the children are able to sing along. It was obvious that the institutions were aiming at a certain target audience and in this case it was children. It is important to think about your audience not just who but the stuff they like to do so that you can connect more with the audience you are trying to target.
The genre we decide to do s Pop. The CD Cover I looked at that come under this Genre is.................. ESSENCIAL VISUAL CHARACTEISTICS OF THIS GENRE. Codes ,meanings...

Genre Research...

The genre that my group decided to do is Pop. This is because we wanted to do something different from everyone else. After researching through watching music channels on TV we found that the most dominant and most popular Genre now is RnB and rap because there are a more music channels for these genres than any other genre. Even though this was the most dominant genre we decided as a group that we didn’t want to do this because as a group wanted to get away from this and do a different genre from everyone else. We decided to do pop because we wanted to differentiate from the other groups but also because we found that a lot of people tend to enjoy this kind of music.

Britney sweding task

Britney task
During the Britney Spears Sweding Task the 2 classes got together then separated in too 4 groups to film different sections of the music video. We had to storyboard the different cut which was very difficult because there were so many quick cuts and a range of locations that Britney used in her video. The group I was put in too had the castaway cuts. We had to film the extra little bits that make up the overall music video. These cuts are quite essential in making the music because without these it would just be Britney dancing with the backup dancers and this will bore the audience. It was important that we had good crew management so that everyone had a role in the group. For example camera man, director and so on.
The only weakness that we faced was that no-one from our group wanted to be in front of the camera because they felt silly doing the little actions but we overcame this encouraging group members and also by getting other people to star in the shots we filmed.
I enjoyed doing this task and the end product was a success when we put all the 4 groups work together .Overall I think that the whole media group worked well in doing their tasks and as a result were recreated Britney’s music video really good that looked very similar to the original.
